THE LAST MOUNTAIN MAN
This story was written in 2004. I was living in California at the time and spending 2 weeks every summer backpacking in the Wind Rivers. During one of those hikes, I had this most unusual meeting. All part of the hidden impetus that eventually led me to relocate to Wyoming.
SOME BEEKEEPING LESSONS
When I lived in the mild climate of the Bay Area, I kept bees for about seven years. Here’s a few stories about that experience. The first year I purchased my home in Wyoming, I called The Game and Fish to purchase a bear-resistant trash container. When the warden arrived with it, he had some unusual contraptions in the back of his truck. I asked what that was for. “It’s to keep the bears out of the beehives for the local beekeepers”. Right then and there, I knew that I didn’t want to continue keeping bees here in Grizzly country.
WILDLANDS, AGRIFOLIA, AND ENCHANTED LANDSCAPES
I wrote this essay over 9 years ago when I was living in Marin County, Ca. It was written as a homage to the California Oaks, which I love, and to bring awareness to another point of view of why I think they are suffering Sudden Oak Death.
